What is a window Sash?

A window sash is a component of dwelling structures and buildings that allow for light to pass into the home and yet create a barrier to what will become “the outside.” A window sash can be made of many types of materials ranging from wood, steel, aluminum, Polyvinyl chloride, fiberglass and composites and is what holds one, two or three panes of glass. 

The most basic window sash consists of two Rails (top and bottom pieces) and the Stiles ( left and right pieces) and one piece of glass held in place using putty or an adhesive.
